The Radio-Television News Directors Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow’s pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession. Arlene Sweeting, WSLR Station Manager, says, “Alex does outstanding work for our local news report – all the more noteworthy because he does it on a volunteer basis. It is wonderful to see his work get this kind of recognition by industry professionals.” You can listen to Newberry’s reports at 5:30pm Monday and Friday on WSLR-LP 96.5 or go to www.wslrnews.org to listen to the podcast.

Ursula Reutin, News Director at KIRO-AM says, “The Edward R. Murrow Award recognizes the “best of the best” and is truly the most prestigious award in electronic journalism. Your newsroom’s work is judged by your peers in the industry and the bar is set high. To win a Murrow is the ultimate compliment for any news organization.”
