Riot Folk bring RespectYourMama Bike Tour to New College w/ Climate Justice Workshop and Evening Concert
Evan Greer and Shannon Murray from the Riot-Folk! Collective will be in Sarasota on the RespectYourMama Bike Tour on Tuesday, February 3rd. At 2pm in the Fishbowl in Hamilton Center on the campus of
New College Evan and Shannon will conduct a participatory workshop on Climate Change. This interactive presentation will weave together music, discussion, visuals, and popular education games in an effort to draw out the connections between different forms of oppression and struggles towards liberation. It is targeted toward high-school and college-age folks and is open to community members. At 7pm in the Teacher’s Auditorium on the New College campus, Evan and Shannon will present a music concert that is also open to the public.
Evan Greer is an organizer, songwriter, and popular educator from the Boston-area. At 23 years old, he has toured across the United States, Canada, and Europe, and shared stages with performers like Billy Bragg, Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Chumbawamba, Boots Riley of The Coup, Pete Seeger, Anne Feeney, and The Mammals. He is the founder of the Riot Folk! Collective, an innovative group of radical musicians who work together to use their music as a tool for social change. He also works closely with Rising Tide, an international network of grassroots climate-justice organizations.
Shannon Murray is a folk/punk musical activist singer/songwriter from the northwoods of Minnesota. Shannon and Evan will be visiting over 30 communities and traveling over 1,200 pedal-powered miles on their RespectYourMama Bike Tour.
Come out and support these young folk. Suggested donation – $10. Part of the proceeds from the event will support the Alliance for Responsible Transportation and WSLR Community Radio.
