Homelessness Marathon Air Tonights on WSLR 96.5
NATIONAL BROADCAST TO EXAMINE POVERTY POST-KATRINA
This evening WSLR will participate in the 12th annual Homelessness Marathon which will originate from Pass Christian Mississippi, starting at 7pm EST, Monday February 23rd and ending 14 hours later, at 9 am EST Tuesday February 24. WSLR will be interspersing coverage of local homeless issues with the national broadcast. WSLR will be airing interviews with the local chapter of the Salvation Army and the YMCA, Resurrection House, the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness, Childlink, as well as homeless people, volunteers and local merchants in an effort to bring attention to the issues that affect every resident of Sarasota.
“This will be the first national examination of the poverty, as opposed to just the debris, left behind in Katrina’s wake,” comments Jeremy Weir Alderson, the Homelessness Marathon’s director. “We will be gathering the poor and desperate people of the Gulf coast, so they can tell their stories directly to America.
There will be two call-in numbers to participate in the national broadcast.
ANYONE may call 877-NOBODY-8 (877-662-6398)
People who are homeless, formerly homeless or afraid they’re about to be homeless may also call 866-LEFT-OUT (866-533-8688)
