“Yesterday’s Dead Today”, Monday, August 1st, 7-9pm Eastern

Written by on Sunday, August 2, 2020

“It is said that, if you lined up all those who have ever been to a Grateful Dead concert head-to-toe, the line would stretch around the moon, and about halfway back. And nobody would complain!”

WSLR is slowly coming back with a very sparse number of live studio programmers, albeit with very specific instructions as to how to protect both ourselves and our fellow WSLR volunteers.

Jerry Garcia Band
Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, Irvine, CA
Jerry’s 50th birthday:

August 1, 1992
Primary source: FOB(Nak700)>SonyD3>DAT>CDR>WAV>SHNv3.
Cats Under the Stars and the beginning of Mission In The Rain (which are missing from the FOB source) are
from a second source with at least one analog generation of spotty indeterminate lineage.
Thanks to K.Benbenisty for the FOB source.
Taper is unknown for both sources.

I know during last week’s show i said a couple of times I had a fine, early soundboard line up tor this Monday’s
show…staying in the habit of typically lining up shows based on a Monday’s date. And then I remembered,
Saturday is Jerry’s birthday! So checked my list and found this superb audience recording, and it was Jerry’s
50th birthday!

As said above, the first ten or so minutes are from the only other source, an inferior audience recording, albeit
still very listenable. However, with patience, you will slide into this fine, fine front-of-board recording:

Disc 1 – Set 1:

  1. Cats Under The Stars
  2. Mission In The Rain
  3. Waiting For A Miracle
  4. Mississippi Moon
  5. Ain’t No Bread In The Breadbox
  6. My Sisters And Brothers
  7. Everybody Needs Somebody To Love

Disc 2 – Set 2:

  1. Shining Star
  2. Money Honey
  3. Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door
  4. The Maker
  5. Don’t Let Go
  6. Wonderful World

Comments:
“Jerry’s 50th birthday. Intermittent balloons popping and mic contact with concert participants. This is one
tough venue in terms of crowd noise – check out all other recordings from this venue), but all in all a pretty
inspired performance and sentimentally over-the-hill second set topped off with a lovey dovey wonderful world.
With Jerry around, indeed it was a Wonderful World. Happy Birthday Jerry!!!”
