“Yesterday’s Dead Today”, Monday, August 31st, 7-9pm Eastern

Written by on Sunday, August 30, 2020

WSLR is slowly coming back with a very sparse number of live studio programmers, albeit with very specific instructions as to how to protect both ourselves and our fellow WSLR volunteers.

I was gonna open tonight’s show with something entirely different, but then I found out that long-time friend,
long-time Deadhead, founder of “Where Will We Go Tonight”, and literally friend to everyone, passed away
this past week. So I have to tell my story:

Way back, when WSLR was still a kitten, broadcasting from the Myrtle studio, and before there was a “Where
Will We Go Tonight”, Don called me. He was “consolidating” things, found that he had two big Jerry Garcia
dolls, and would I like one. I asked if I could give it to the station studio. he said, “No”. so Jerry has sat next me
for every show since that night he came in(save the past virus-challenged months). Don will always be with me.
Condolences to Joni and all the families and friends.

This is for Don:

REVIEW: scarlet>fire if nothing else…
good sound… similar to the tape i’ve had for years, but cleaner. excellent scarlet>fire in what i would say was
THE year for them (not the biggest ’77 fan here). Brent rips it up.

REVIEW: great stuff
Great set list! I went to the set list program site and put in Lost Saint, Scarlet Fire, Playin’, and Dew–thinking
that that would be something of a dream show for me–and this came up. It’s a great set list–I love opening the
set with Lost Saint–and very nicely played throughout. Nice quality recording, too. I was at the Aladdin in
’83–trippy place for a Dead show. This one is better.

REVIEW: Alladin Dew
Jerry was in good form August ‘81. Then there were the Greeks!

REVIEW: Vegas Baby!
Grateful Dead on the Vegas Strip. What a trip! Great show!
Wow still have this button from this show. After the show I
Played the slots with Bill Kreutzman and his wife. I invited them to come horseback riding when they came to
Rochester for an upcoming show and he said they didn’t have time. I said when do you have time to do things
you want to do and he said “we are doing it! Touring and playing music That all we want to do” Then I snuck in
to see Wayne Newton sing a couple of songs. Won money and diverted to the Grand Canyon for sunrise and
colors!
