“Yesterday’s Dead Today”, Monday, January 18th, 7-9pm Eastern

Written by on Sunday, January 17, 2021

“It is said that, if you lined up all those who have ever been to a Grateful Dead concert head-to-toe, the line would stretch around the moon, and about halfway back. And nobody would complain!”

WSLR is slowly coming back with a very sparse number of live studio programmers, albeit with very
specific instructions as to how to protect both ourselves and our fellow WSLR volunteers.

And WSLR has now opened new Studio “B”, adjacent to the Joe Jacco On-Air Studio, wherein we will
be able to alternate shows in-house without programmer contacts.

Still hard to find Dead dates this time of year, but we are getting closer!

To the best of my knowledge, I have only broadcast one show twice, years ago, and that was
intentional.Tonight, I broadcast two shows I have already broadcast, again for special reasons…

Leading off tonight in the first hour, while I normally broadcast sets in date order, I need to start with this, for obvious reasons(and only broadcasting the music…):

The Dead
Obama Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball
Washington, DC

This came down as a camera soundboard feed but it sounds like an audience recording.

2, Uncle John’s Band

6, VP Biden Speech
7, tuning
8, The Wheel >
9, Touch Of Grey
10, Box Of Rain
11, Obama Speech

13, Dance & Back Ground Music

Bob Weir – guitar and vocals, Phil Lesh – bass and vocals,
Bill Kreutzmann – drums, Mickey Hart – percussion,
Warren Haynes – guitar and vocals, Jeff Chimenti – keyboards

Of the very few reviewers, most seem to not like the Dead being political. Apparently not out in the
open, since they were ‘political” from the days when they were the Warlocks. Just that for the most
part, they supported social events and ideals:
REVIEW: Thanks for the Show
A Great show on a memorable night.

REVIEW: I long for a saner time(or insaner with common sense)
I liked it when the Dead were expressly non political(save for the Columbia gig). Yes by their very
existence they were political but that was rather cryptic. Jerry would be nixing these open
endorsements of political candidates. what a fuckin shame! Shut up and play!…and not at a political
event.

REVIEW: Same here.
Jerry Garcia was never into doing partisan political events or working for a candidate! The GD
concentrated on issues instead and created the REX Foundation to distribute their $$$.

REVIEW: The Dead, not The Grateful Dead
cous & yip , I am right there with you. Yet another reason to miss Jerry. One star for MH subjecting me to this
propaganda twice on their spring ’09 tour.

And in the second hour:
