Andy Firk practices permaculture at Bamboo Grove Farm in Arcadia, Florida where he houses a collection of 250 types of plants in the ground, over 180 of which are edible and medicinal, plus many varieties of hardy, clumping bamboos. This event is a great opportunity to learn, discuss, and share information and plants.
Saturday, Aug 30th, 3-6pm - Workshop with Andy Firk Perennial Vegetables for SW Florida includes a slideshow, potluck, plant swap, & Q&A time! Andy has traveled to over 180 organic farms, backyard permaculture gardens, edible plants nurseries, etc. across Florida. During his trips, he has taken many photos of various perennial vegetables that well suit our sub-tropical climate. The slideshow is loaded with photos and gardening friends who share their experiences with us. He will discuss many plants, including tindora perennial cucumber, longevity spinach, purple ube yams, jewels of opar, arrowroot, latexplant, and more.
WHAT TO BRING: Notepad & pencil. Food to share (there is a small kitchen that we may use at the center). There will be plants to swap and to sell in the back of Andy's truck, so bring plants to swap if you like.
