WSLR has a volunteer-run news department headed by David Beaton. We are always looking for people who are interested and involved in the community to become volunteer reporters. Do you frequently find yourself at City Council or County Commission meetings? Are you a regular at your Neighborhood Association Meeting? Do you attend special arts and cultural events? Then why not take a mini-disc recorder along with you and file a story for WSLR’s Jumping Mullet Report.

The genus M. curema is the mullet most often found on either coast of the United States. Although the main predator of the mullet is man, another that is known to migrate just to feed onthis fish is the barracuda.

We will try to protect our community from the barracudas of this society by  giving news and information that our community needs. Listen and be a citizen reporter.

Special Series on the Justice System – Summer 2009

With the help of New College Intern Anna Hamilton, WSLR will explore the Sarasota, FL-area criminal justice system as completely as possible: through the voices, perspectives and attitudes of both the citizens and officials who call Florida home. Throughout the summer our reporters and contributors will be asking the question, “What should we try to accomplish with our justice system?” as a way to guide our thoughts and conversations.
