Board and Staff

Lee is the communications intern with WSLR + Fogartyville. They are a student at New College of Florida, and study Creative Writing and Humanities. Their interests include community building, poetry, and expanding diversity in written media.

Paula is currently majoring in mass communications with a concentration in broadcast journalism at the University of South Florida. She enjoys writing and hopes to become a news writer in the future.

Ethan Massa is a native Tennessean making Sarasota his home in 2018. He owned an auction and real estate business in Metro Nashville. He married his wife, Heather, shortly after his time at the University of Tennessee and is a proud father to Haley, and three rescue cats. Outdoors is where he enjoys spending most of mhistime: fishing, boating, gardening, woodworking, running, biking, swimming, and taking photos. He is an active member of the Mangrove Coast Fly Fishing Club. He played football for the University of Tennessee Volunteers and is proud to be part of the 1998 National Championship Team. Ethan is an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota where he is a Youth Advisor in the Religious Education Program, Second Sunday Potluck Chair, and has taken leadership roles in the annual fundraising events and Thanksgiving Dinner service. He is continuously seeking service opportunities to make his community stronger.

Jennifer "JR" Rippel was born and raised in New Jersey. She then lived in western Massachusetts for almost 20 years, where she was a CPA at a construction and real estate firm. She previously served on the board of a historical theater, and she is currently a volunteer tax preparer through the AARP TaxAide program. She lives in downtown Sarasota with her husband.

Brian Jones is a writer and photographer living in Sarasota. He is an adjunct professor at the Ringling College of Art and Design. His passion for music and social change drew him to WSLR+Forgartyville where he is a programmer on Wednesday evenings with his show Jazz and More.

Ed Subkis has had a long career in public radio. He managed stations in New York, Florida, North Carolina and California and has been a believer in community radio since the 1970s. His wife, Bunny, grew up in Sarasota and they always knew they would come back. They returned in 2016 and now enjoy the beaches, gardening and, of course, WSLR+Fogartyville.

Calvin is a news team intern. He is a senior year technical communications student enrolled at the University of South Florida.

Becca is a member of the news team. She studies sociology and Spanish at New College of Florida.

A native of Florida, Carmela has raised two wonderful children here, and loves living in Sarasota with her husband, David Brain, and their fluffy golden, Gryphon.

Jenna is a current third year history student at New College of Florida. She serves as the New College representative.

Pamela is the arts curator for Fogartyville.  An artist herself, she brings with her a wide range of art expertise and community involvement.

Sydney works part-time as the bookkeeper. Sydney started working at WSLR last year as the bookkeeper and was thrilled for the offer due to her love of music.
