A trio of top-notch instrumentalists— Shawn Lane, Richard Bennett and Cory Walker —from respective legendary bluegrass outfits Blue Highway, J.D. Crowe & The New South and The Dillards will take the stage at Fogartyville. Lane and Bennett teamed up just a couple of years ago to co-write and perform, releasing a 2018 debut EP, Land & Harbor, and playing their debut show together in 2019.
Prior to becoming a founding member of Blue Highway in 1994, Lane played with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder. His time with Blue Highway yielded three Grammy nominations and 28 IBMA Awards as a vocalist and a triple on fiddle, mandolin and guitar. As a songwriter, Lane was nominated as 2015 IBMA Songwriter of the Year, penning such respected songs as “The Game,” “Sycamore Hollow,” and “Tears Fell on Missouri.”
As for East Tennessee native, Bennett, he began his musical odyssey touring with former Flatt & Scruggs fiddle player Benny Sims. Gigs at Dollywood followed, with his big break coming in the ‘90s when he joined the legendary J.D. Crowe & The New South. Bennett appeared on Crowe’s 1995 album, Flashback, which was nominated for two Grammy Awards. He went on to tour with greats like Bobby Osbourne, Mike Auldridge, and Jimmy Gaudreau.
Banjo player Cory Walker performs with The Dillards, the Tim O’Brien Band and Mountain Heart. He received the 2014 IBMA Momentum Award for Instrumentalist of the year.
