HotRodRock 4-6 PM Wednesday 5/8/19 The Fastest Two Hours on Radio!
6 May 2019 General
First big tanks to everyone that contributed during the WSLR spring marathon! Besides just keeping the station on the air for another six months you gave every volunteer programer a warm fuzzy. Want to especially thank the thirteen people that pledged their support, and said HRR was a vital part of their WSLR experience.
First hour I have pulled a pretty random lot of music. Surf, rock, country with a big nod to Nashville(Nashville Boogie weekender). For the second hour will be mostly featuring artists that are and have played the WMNF Rockabilly Ruckus. #14 is taking place this Saturday and Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys return. Quite the coup and a statement on just how cool this event is to have a band of Big Sandy’s caliber as a returning artist. Past alumni of the Ruckus include, Wanda Jackson, Rosie Flores,Lee Rocker, The Luster Kings and many more national acts as well as being a showcase for some of the incredible local bands. Florida has a great rockabilly scene.
And speaking of our great rockabilly, Sarasota’s own Ted Stevens was just inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame for his work with Neal and the Vipers. Ted Stevens & the Doo Shots have a show Saturday at Big Top Brewery for their 2nd Annual Food Truck Rally.
Sarasota hosts some incredible institutions that have been in our community so long it is easy to blow right by them and pay no mind. Here is a couple of my favorites. Summer is here, it is our town again!
- Sarasota Car Museum Great collection and lots of other cool stuff . Enough to kill any rainy afternoon or a “just too hot I need A/C”.
- Bahi Hut If you have not been , your not a local. If you have not been there lately, your missing out. It got redo and been restored to that early 60’s vibe with lots of new art and new speciality drinks. And a non smoking bar to boot.
- Big Cat Habitat Check out feeding time ! The Celery Fields park is right close. Go walk around it while you’re out that way. Home of one of Sarasota’s two mountains.
- JR’s Old Packinghouse Live music 7 nights a week and a kitchen where dust is considered a spice. Joking their $5 burger is the bomb paired with a sweet tea.
Vidio I have been watching of late
