The Progressive Palace, 11/15, Noon-2:00 pm
Written by Phillip Gambutti on Monday, November 14, 2016
On previous episodes of The Progressive Palace I focused on the “Canterbury”and “Symphonic” rock sub genres of Progressive music, and this week we’ll be listening to some of the more “folksier” music of the progressive rock genre. Borne from the folk movement of the early 60’s happening on both sides of the Atlantic, this “psych-folk” or “acid-folk” as it was also known was based on traditional English and Celtic music, but incorporated groundbreaking and experimental sounds not exclusively of an acoustic nature, and often included elements of jazz, eastern and even medieval type music.
We’ll be hearing from groups like Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, Pentangle, Dando Shaft, Spirogyra, Strawbs, Trader Horne, Jethro Tull and many many more!!
As always-Thanks for listening!
