Vicki Chelf‘s “Women of Resistance” paintings were inspired by the discovery of a trove of old newspapers, followed by a visit to a Resistance museum in a small town in France. The paintings celebrate the little-known women heroes who were essential to the defeat of the Nazis during WWII.
They are painted in oil over the original newspapers that are collaged onto 36 x 48-inch canvasses.
Chelf will tell the stories of some of the heroes, followed by music from Suzanne Lucas and John Lambie, plus a dance performance depicting WWII hero Nancy Wake. The choreography is by Tania Vergara Perez from Endedans Contemporary Ballet.
