Fogartyville is pleased to present its second annual Poets Unplugged Spoken Word series.  Hosted by Spoken Word artist Melanie Lavender, the first in the series of six events will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 7-10 p.m.  Doors will open at 7 p.m. as DJ Rozay sets the mood with his musical mix.  At 8 p.m. local poets are invited to participate in the Open Mic prior to the featured poet performance at 9pm. (Open Mic sign-up begins at 7:15 p.m).

Whit the Poet will be the featured performer in October. Born in Bradenton, Whit the Poet began her poetry journey at the age of 10 when she wrote her first poem and it won first place on a radio station in South Florida.  She is now a self-published author of two poetry books. She serves as a writing coordinator for As She Speaks, a poet’s mental health organization, providing a platform for women to express mental healing through writing. Whit the Poet has won multiple national grand slam poetry competitions. She holds a BA In early childhood education and has worked as a teacher and a Doula, encouraging and helping women with natural resources and guiding them emotionally through their pregnancy journeys. Her passion is writing and telling stories through the art of poetry.

Thanks to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation for their sponsorship of our Spoken Word series.
