The Art of the Trio

 Discover the magic, nuance, and dynamic interplay of one of jazz’s most iconic formats in The Art of the Trio, a concert celebrating the power and poetry of the jazz piano trio. Led by award-winning pianist Dr. Zachary Bartholomew, this performance pays tribute to the legendary trios that defined the genre—from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and Nat King Cole to Herbie Hancock, Brad Mehldau, and Robert Glasper. With a focus on intricate arrangements, group chemistry, and spontaneous creativity, each piece captures the essence of the trio as both a tight ensemble and a vehicle for expressive freedom. The program also features original compositions by Bartholomew, offering a modern take on the trio tradition while pushing it into new, exciting territory.

Dr. Zachary Bartholomew is an award-winning pianist, composer, and music educator who maintains a highly active performance career as one of the most heavily sought-after pianists, accompanists, and sidemen in all of Florida. In both 2016 and 2017, he placed as one of the top three finalists in the highly acclaimed Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition and every year since 2021 has been awarded the prestigious “Artist Performance on Tour” grant from the state of Florida for his “Jazz Access Tour,” an outreach program that aims to provide underserved communities and schools in Florida with world-class public performances and educational programs.
