Diana Bregman: This is Diana Bregman with your Activist Calendar for Friday, July 7. Florida Veterans for Common Sense will hold its general meeting on Monday, July 10 from 7pm to 8:30pm at Unity of Sarasota 3023 Proctor Road, also available on Zoom. Hear an expert panel discuss the threat phosphate strip mining poses to the Florida watershed and to our drinking water at this July meeting. For more information and to register for the Zoom webinar, go to floridaveteransforcommonsense.org.

The Sarasota County Commission regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 12 starting at 9am. Regular meetings of the Sarasota County Commission are typically scheduled on the second and fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of each month. Next week’s meetings will be held at the Sarasota County Administration Center at 1660 Ringling Boulevard. Meetings are also cablecast live on Access Sarasota. Meeting agendas and complete agenda packets along with official minutes and board voting results are available prior to, during and after meetings. More information on the Sarasota County Commission regular meeting can be found at www.scgov.net.

Sarasota League of Women Voters will host Coffee and Conversation and Defending Democracy in several locations. They’ll discuss current activities and league plans, especially those related to petition-gathering for the reproductive rights and clean water constitutional amendment initiatives for 2024. The league will take completed petitions for the two constitutional amendments and have blank petitions and forms available at these meetings.

Those interested can join like-minded activists in making a real difference for our region and state. There are two dates and two locations to choose from. The South County meeting will be held this Wednesday, July 12 from 9am to 10:30pm at Panera Bread at 4179 Tamiami Trail South in Venice, and the North County meeting will be held the following Wednesday, July 26 at Rise & Nye’s Coffee Company at 1534 State Street in downtown Sarasota. For more information about the League of Women Voters conversation meetings, go to lwvsrq.org.

Also on Wednesday, July 12, the League of Women Voters of Manatee County will hold its Coffee, Conversation and Defending Democracy meeting, focused on the same ballot initiatives that the Sarasota league is supporting. The Manatee meeting on July 12 will be held at Panera Bread in Bradenton at 6351 Manatee Avenue West Bradenton. More information on the meetings can be found at lwvmanatee.org.
