STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS
Music fans will gather to hear a trio of songwriters playing in-the-round in between sharing stories and describing their process.
John Hoover

John Hoover is a mandolinist and songwriter for the grassified stringband The Wandering Hours. He has been perfroming music for 25 years but working on original compositions for his current band for the last 6 years. He has played concerts and festivals with notable acts like Del McCoury Band, John McEuen from Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Infamous String Dusters, and Leftover Salmon to name a few. His songwriting is a meditative act using many refererences to nature and soul life. He begain writing songs back in his Army days as a paratrooper to now being a full time musician for his band and other acts. Born and raised by Sugar Creek Indiana he has made Sarasota his home for the last 20 years where he prefers life by the sea and travels relentlessly.
Sara Stovall

Four years after being born in Sylva, NC, Sara Stovall threw a fit in the kitchen during her younger sister’s birthday party. While somewhat characteristic of Sara’s single-digit ages, the meltdown peaked in an uncharacteristically intelligible request for a violin, of all things. Because she was not careful, Sara got what she asked for, and the violin has been her constant companion in the 30-plus years since.
In 2011, Sara joined the Americana-folk project Passerine as a fiddler and harmony
singer. Her first songwriting attempt, titled “Fish,” became the first track on Harbingers,
Passerine’s third studio album released in 2016. Sara continues to contribute
songs—mostly true-ish stories from lived experiences of love, loss, and remarkable first dates—to her band’s catalog of original music.
She regularly performs alongside Florida
leftneck troubadour Grant Peeples and has shared the stage with other award-winning songsmiths such as John Salaway, Alice Wallace, and Bryan Elijah Smith.
Alex Borst

Alex Borst is an American singer/songwriter and finger style guitarist based out of St. Petersburg, FL. He creatively fuses blues, jazz and folk into a soulful and spirited performance.
