STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS

Music fans will gather to hear a trio of songwriters playing in-the-round in between sharing stories and describing their process.

Terry Miller ( MillerTyme ) was in his first garage band in 1967 . Wrote his first two original songs in 1969 , and having created a sizable songbook over the years including “ Democracy Goodbye “ written the day after the 2024 election, it is notable that Terry ( MillerTyme ) has not yet taken any of his material to the studio. Some have been captured on cellphone videos and ended up in YouTube and Facebook posts. But having discovered Fogartyville and WSLR radio in Sarasota , he twisted the station manager’s arm to allow him to collaborate with two exceptional musicians, Joe Smothers and John Ford to present a Singer/Songwriter evening at Fogartyville.

Joe Smothers

John Ford

It’s pre war blues, old school country, southern gospel and the history behind the music. John Ford assimilates the blues of the 1920’s and 30’s, the blues of Robert Johnson and Son House, a bit of 1940’s country and a pinch of gospel rhythm, and comes up with his own brand of the roots experience.
