Our Story
Built from the ground up.
Still community-owned.
WSLR signed on in 2005 after years of organizing by local volunteers who believed Sarasota needed something different — media created by and accountable to the community it served.
At a time when corporate consolidation was reshaping the airwaves, neighbors built a station from the ground up. They assembled equipment, trained one another, and created programming that reflected the music, conversations, and concerns of this place.
Fogartyville grew from that same spirit. What began as a gathering point for live performance and dialogue became a physical home for artists, activists, educators, and audiences to share space and ideas.
Today, WSLR Media & Art Center continues that work — investing in the people, partnerships, and facilities that sustain independent media and civic and cultural life on Florida’s Suncoast.
