The Joy of Jazz

2:00pmFRI (A)

The Joy of Jazz celebrates the music which has roots that are uniquely American but now is performed globally. No one has ever found the legendary recordings of Buddy Bolden; however, the Joy of Jazz presents as much of the music from Jelly Roll Morton to Jason Moran that is recorded. Paul Dean grew up in WNY. His first experience doing radio was as an undergraduate at SUNY Geneseo. He worked at WBFO (Jazz 88) for a decade then moved to Woodstock to work in printing. He returned to graduate school at Binghamton University and did jazz programming at WSQX in Binghamton. Paul moved to Sarasota in 1996 and was an English teacher at Pine View for the Gifted in Osprey until he retired. He loves jazz, blues, and poetry. You may find him at some of the open poetry mics in the area.
