Memorial Breakfast and Scholarship Support

The Unity Walk is part of a three-day celebration taking place January 17 through 19.
The Sarasota MLK Celebration Committee also hosts a Memorial Breakfast, which raises funds for scholarships supporting low-income, college-bound youth in our community.
Proceeds from the breakfast help expand educational access by providing financial support for students pursuing higher education.

The breakfast is one of Sarasota’s longest-running tributes to Dr. King and reflects the belief that education, opportunity, and community care are essential to building the future he envisioned.

Why We Walk

Sarasota’s MLK Celebration is one of the oldest in the nation, established in 1981, two years before the federal holiday.
The event supports scholarships for local youth and keeps Dr. King’s message alive through education, service, and community building.

By joining the Unity Walk, we honor a vision rooted in compassion, courage, and the belief that a better world is possible when we stand together.
