Peace & Justice 9AM 7/5/17 – People’s Congress of Resistance, then Rights Restoration

Written by on Monday, July 3, 2017

This Wednesday we’ll have local activist Juliana Musheyev on the show talking about the People’s Congress of Resistance. From their website, congressofresistance.org:

In the face of the assault waged against working class and poor communities and the environment by the Trump Administration a grassroots People’s Congress of Resistance will convene in Washington, D.C. on September 16 and 17, 2017.

The corrupt U.S. Congress represents and serves the already-rich and is regularly paid off by the 15,000 lobbyists who constitute a shadow government in Washington. It is not and cannot be the voice of the people. It is dominated by two corrupt political parties – neither of which is truly representative of the people.

The People’s Congress of Resistance will be the voice of the people – an expression of direct democracy of those who are left out and kept out of the Congress of plutocrats.

On the second half of our program we’ll talk to Desmond Meade about restoring felon voting rights in Florida. Desmond is a formerly homeless returning citizen who overcame many obstacles to eventually become the current State Director for Florida Live Free Campaign, President of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), Chair of Floridians for a Fair Democracy, Chair of the Florida Coalition on Black Civic Participation’s Black Men’s Roundtable, and a graduate of Florida International University College of Law.

There is a gala in Orlando July 20-22 at the Rosen Centre Hotel. See their Facebook page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/FlaRightsRestorationCoalition/
