Truly Valued will be holding a discussion entitled “Let’s Talk: In Gun Violence, No More Silence” on Monday, August 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Robert L Taylor community complex at 1845 34th Street in Sarasota. The event’s organizers invite all youth to join for the panel discussion about the damage gun violence does to the community. Featured panelists include the Sarasota Police Department and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Attorney Stefan Campagna, and the Reverend Demetrius Jifunza. Those interested in submitting panel questions can email leslie@trulyvalued.org.
The League of Women Voters of Manatee County have issued an action alert on impact fees, and is organizing citizens to reach out to their county commissioners and encourage them to adopt an impact fee ordinance to offset the cost of new infrastructure needed to support growth. The league is also looking for citizens willing to speak during the citizens comment for future meetings on August 8 at the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners meeting. More information about impact fees and how you can get involved can be found at the league’s website at lwvmanatee.org.
