Join us for an evening of art and live music to commemorate the Angelversary of Breonte Johnson-Davis. This event is organized by the Manasota Re-Entry Project, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Voices of Florida Fund and BLM Grassroots.
Breonte was a young black man killed by the Palmetto Police Department during a mental health crisis on November 2nd, 2023 . His death inspired our community organizers to mobilize against police brutality in Manatee County, adding to the ongoing struggle for Black Liberation.
Breonte’s mother, Tracey Washington, is the president of the Manatee NAACP, Chapter Leader of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition and the chair of the Manasota Re-Entry Project. Under her leadership, the Manasota Re-Entry Project continues to advocate for preventing police violence through the implementation of the CALL Program. This initiative enables social workers, rather than police, to respond to mental health crises. They have also honored the victims and mothers of state-sanctioned violence with the “Walk A Mile In Our Shoes” monuments, which will be on display during the event.
This very special night will feature musical performances by incredible local artists.
- Spirit.Gze (Kendra), a politically conscious rapper/R&B singer from Tampa whose smooth voice and lyrics cut through the noise. Her biggest single “Lights” is an energetic, rap track that is the perfect soundtrack for a revolution. She is a force to be reckoned with!

- Dames, a multifaceted musical artist and community organizer based in Florida. His soulful voice delivers powerful R&B songs on his last EP “Dream Journal”. He also sings Worship Gospel songs under the name of Dylan Dames

Melanie Lavender, a spoken word artist and a proud Sarasota native. Educated in the Sarasota County school system and Newtown community, Lavender is a wife, mother, and a podcast/radio host of “Soul of Tha Matter” and co-host on “The Power Circle” at 107.5 The Vibe. The chaotic beauty of life influences her to write, and through writing she found a way to transform anxiety and depression into poetry and community activism.

Additionally, we will have raffles, art exhibits, posters, food, drinks, and local vendors. We hope to see you there!
