Manasota 88 talks phosphate mining in Bradenton

Written by on Saturday, February 9, 2019

Phosphate mining could have longstanding negative consequences in the environment and ecosystem in Manasota–and its neighboring counties, Sarasota and Charlotte. An upcoming Hot Topics Luncheon with the League of Women Voters will addresss this issue.

Glenn Compton, Chairman of Manasota 88, an environmental group that oversees phosphate mining in the area, spoke to the Critical Times on phosphate mining activity in the Bradenton area. While Florida is an ideal state for extracting phosphate, he believes that the long-term affects of mining in this area will be more costly in the long term.

You can listen to Compton’s full length interview here. This is just one of several segments to air in the next installment of the Critical Times, this Friday at 6 p.m., with reruns on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. Can’t wait until then? Check out the WSLR archives!
