NO HABLO ESPAÑOL
Nuestra Música is presenting NO HABLO ESPAÑOL, where we will be voicing rarely heard songs from Galicia, Cataluña, Spain’s Basque region, Paraguay, Perú, Bolivia and Argentinian and Chilean Patagonian regions.
Nowadays four languages other than Spanish are spoken in Spain, Galician, Basque, Catalán and Occitán. South America has 37 language families, 448 dialects many of them unclassified. Indigenous languages are spoken by over 11 million people, yet only Quechua in Bolivia, and Guaraní in Paraguay have official status along with Spanish. Huayno, a second cousin of Quechua in Perú, and Mapuche in Patagonia have not official status.
Reinterpreting songs from centuries old songbooks, musical groups like Luar Na Lubre from Galicia, Kazkabarra from the Basque country, Uchpa from Perú, and among others singers like Joan Manuel Serrat from Cataluña, Dúo Quintana Escalante from Paraguay, and Beatriz Pichi Malen from Patagonia, will be presented in Nuestra Música.
