Nurture The Blues

Scheduled on

SAT (B) 1:00 pm 2:59 pm

Alt. Saturdays 1p.m. - 3p.m.

This program explores the wide spectrum of Blues—from national touring acts to standout Florida artists—with a spotlight on musicians who’ve performed across the Sarasota-Manatee region.

Some episodes feature guest voices from Florida’s Blues scene, including artists, historians, and community organizers, sharing insights on the music’s evolution and impact.

At the heart of each show is a belief in the power of Blues to heal, connect, and uplift. There are many rooms in the house of Blues—and this show invites listeners to explore them all.

deLafayette Reid III began his radio journey with a midnight slot on a student-run station in Springfield, Illinois, spinning everything from Buffalo Springfield to Janis Joplin.

Years later, he joined the editorial team of Blues Review Magazine (later Blues Music Magazine), helping launch a digital showcase that gave emerging artists a space to share their music and reach new listeners.

He went on to serve on the board of the Suncoast Blues Society—eventually elected president—where he worked to support artists and build a stronger Blues community in Florida.

Whether through festivals, radio, or grassroots connections, Lafayette’s mission remains steady: to keep the Blues alive and share music that brings people together and speaks to the soul.
