It’s budget season. The Manatee County Commission will hold three workshops this week, beginning Monday. The Sarasota County Commission will follow with three more workshops, from Wednesday through Friday. The Sarasota County Commission will end the week on Friday with a special meeting trying to assess “the impacts of illegal immigration”.

Manatee County Commission land-use meeting (agenda)

Highlights: Rezoning 39 acres of agricultural land near the Lakewood Ranch area (“Lakewood Springs”) to planned development; rezone for Tunnels-to-Towers veterans housing project; denial of two rezone applications (Tara and Oaks at Rutlands Ranch); Port Manatee master plan update; rezone of 14 acres in west Palmetto to build a 276-unit apartment complex (“Palmetto Apartments”); turning 68 acres of county-owned land into Crooked River Preserve.
