WSLR+Fogartyville Seeking News Journalism Interns for Spring 2026
WSLR+Fogartyville is looking for a News Journalism Intern for Spring 2026. This is a paid learning opportunity for a current student who wants real world experience in community journalism, audio production, and local news.
WSLR+Fogartyville is Sarasota’s community radio station and media arts center, home to independent, locally produced programming and trusted local news. Our newsroom focuses on grassroots issues, public meetings, and stories that highlight voices that are too often overlooked.
About the Internship

Title: News Journalism Intern

Location: WSLR studios in Sarasota, with occasional off site assignments

Term: January to May 2026 (Spring Term)

Schedule: 8 hours per week with flexible scheduling

Compensation: 14 dollars per hour, college credit available, mileage reimbursed for approved off site work

Reports to: News Director

Eligibility: Applicants must be currently enrolled students. Background check required
This internship is designed for a student who is curious, reliable, and interested in telling meaningful stories about our local community.
What You Will Do
As a News Journalism Intern, you will work closely with our News Director and newsroom team to help produce WSLR’s weekday local newscasts. Your work may include:

Researching and pitching story ideas tied to local communities and diverse perspectives

Booking, conducting, and transcribing interviews in person and online

Writing scripts and preparing short news packages for broadcast

Using digital audio editing tools such as Audacity to edit interviews and select soundbites
-
Participating in critique sessions to strengthen reporting and storytelling skills

Helping post news content to the station website and social media platforms
-
Supporting additional newsroom projects as needed
You will be part of a small, collaborative team that values initiative, creativity, and respect for community voices.

Strong writing, research, and communication skills

Basic experience or strong interest in audio editing and production

Comfort working in a fast paced news environment

Experience in student media or journalism classes is a plus, but not required
