Vote NO on Item 2 March 8, then Sarasota Students 4 Climate on Peace & Justice, Feb 23 at 9am

Written by on Tuesday, February 22, 2022

On Wednesday Feb 23 at 9am we first talked to Tom Matrullo of Citizens for District Power and Kindra Muntz of Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections. They urged people to vote NO on ITEM 2 on March 8. Dark money and Republicans are trying to overturn single member districts which allow grass roots candidates to compete with big money and developers. Missed the show? Listen to it at archive.wslr.org.

Then we played a part of our recorded talk with Professor J. Michael Butler, a history professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine. His seminar for teachers on civil rights history was cancelled last month over concerns for “critical race theory” even though his lecture had nothing to do with that topic. “There’s a climate of fear, an atmosphere created by Gov. Ron DeSantis, that has blurred the lines between scared and opportunistic,” he said. Read the whole story here.

Our second guests were Mehak Sandhu and Anja Schwarzbauer from Sarasota Students 4 Climate. They talked about net metering and other things they’re concerned about. Their Facebook page is here.
