Gene Hodsdon is the owner of Everyone Rocks Music School is Sarasota.

Beginning his career as a film scorer after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Hodsdon didn’t always see himself working with kids.

As a composer, he said life was isolating and consisted of working alone in his Boston apartment. But when he moved back to his native Sarasota and started to teach music lessons, he fell in love with it.

“It’s the opposite of ‘Follow your passion,’” he said. “You don’t even necessarily know until you try, but it turned out I really love [teaching]. It’s awesome.”

He said the program helps his students find patience and discipline in the music field as well as in their everyday life.

“It’s funny because the music is kind of the easiest part, and the challenging thing is dealing with the people aspect of it,” Hodsdon said. “If they can kind of develop big picture skills [now], as adults [it will be] a good thing.”

NORINE MUNGO is a multi-genre composer, writing both music and lyrics and performs as The Mungos and also in her Ukulele driven band called Reenee and The Rollers.
Country Folkgrass with Americana Roots is her official tag. Her compositions are a bit of Irish story telling,  and sometimes theatrical, always dance worthy as she creates eclectic beats and styles, from modern to vintage, and nothing evades her ability to capture a story and a feeling of the era. Performing Ukulele Festivals and Folk Festivals, as well as local tv and radio appearances, this writer is living large, right here in Florida, enjoying the tropical breeze and Tampa Bay life style.

James Hawkins is a folksinger/songwriter living  in Venice.  He has performed at a few festivals across the state The Florida Folk Festival, Will McLean Festival, Barberville Folk & Arts Festival and the South Florida Folk Festival.  Right now, he has  a CD Called “Life on the Learning Curve” and has written a program called “Turn Back Time” that he plans to present to the Sarasota County Schools about the local history of Venice.

Sponsored by the Watts Family Endowment for Arts & Education.
