Jesse Coleman / General Manager

Jesse Coleman is the General Manager and Executive Director of WSLR+Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to independent media, arts, and civic engagement in Sarasota, Florida. In this role, he leads the organization’s strategic direction and day-to-day operations, working alongside a small but mighty team to strengthen the region’s local media and cultural ecosystem. Jesse also oversees all operations of WSLR-LP, the organization’s community radio station, ensuring that its programming, journalism, and volunteer-powered broadcasting continue to serve as a vital platform for community voices.

Jesse’s leadership is rooted in a background in political science and a deep belief in the importance of independent media to a healthy democracy. He has focused his work on growing WSLR as a trusted local news hub and platform for civic engagement, expanding the station’s journalism initiatives while strengthening the organization’s long-term sustainability. His approach combines mission-driven leadership with a commitment to modernizing the organization’s technological and operational infrastructure so it can continue serving the community well into the future.

Growing up in the Sarasota–Bradenton area, Jesse was influenced early on by the power of community radio and independent media. When WSLR launched in 2005 with its hyper-local focus, he was immediately drawn to its mission. Before joining the organization’s leadership, he was part of the Fogartyville community as a musician; his band, Cassolette, performed at the original Fogartyville Café and received early airplay on WSLR, deepening his connection to the station and its creative community.

Today, Jesse’s work centers on strengthening local journalism, expanding access to arts and cultural programming, and building partnerships with nonprofits and civic organizations across the region. His goal is to ensure that WSLR+Fogartyville continues to grow as a community-centered institution where independent media, culture, and civic life intersect.

Jesse lives in the Sarasota area with his wife, Ciera, and their two children, Calvin and Juniper.
