Peace & Justice Report: Voting!

Written by on Monday, July 1, 2024

This Wednesday, July 3 at 9am, we’ll talk to Ron Turner, Sarasota County’s Supervisor of Elections.

Then Bob will interview Jeff Siegel of Oxford House of Florida. Oxford Houses are rented family houses where groups of recovering individuals live together in an environment supportive to recovery from addiction.

From Sarasotavotes.gov:

With the March 19 Presidential Preference Primary Primary and Tri-Par Estates Park and Recreation District Election certified, the first of three elections for 2024 is complete. Even with one election under our belt, a busy election year is ahead for all of us.

We are expecting high voter turnout in 2024, and with hundreds of thousands of registered voters in Sarasota County, we want to ensure a smooth voting experience for all. As your supervisor of elections, I encourage voters to begin preparing now by following these easy suggestions.

Start by registering to vote if you haven’t already done so. It’s easy to register online, in person or by mail. Remember, you must be registered to vote at least 29 days prior to an election to be able to vote in that election. More details are available by visiting our Register to Vote page.

If you plan to vote by mail (absentee), be sure your vote-by-mail request is good through 2024. If you’re unsure if your vote-by-mail request is still valid, use the My Voter Status tool to check your status, and if necessary, submit a request.

Finally, if you plan to vote on election day in 2024, take a moment to familiarize yourself with your polling location. Remember, you must vote at your assigned polling location on election day. Your polling location is listed on the back of your Voter Information Card, or you can use the Find My Precinct tool to verify your location. Election day polls are open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Of course, if you have questions about the coming elections, please contact our office at 941.861.8600.
