Desmond Meade , president of the Florida Rights Restoration Commission, and arguably a living example of why discarding human beings who made a mistake and were convicted of crime is wrong , will join Steve and Lew this week to talk about an amendment on the 2018 ballot that would automatically restore voting rights to many convicted felons in the state. Desmond and his partner organizations gathered the more than 700,000 signatures needed to get this important measure on the ballot. Currently, more than 1 milllion Floridians are not allowed to vote after being convicted of a felony as trivial as a speeding ticket.
Later, Tom Collina (above) of the Ploughshares Fund, an organization dedicated to the reduction of nuclear weapons worldwide and the threat they pose, will sound the alarm over current rhetoric coming from Washington about not only increasing our nuclear arsenal but lowering the threshold of using those fearsome weapons. Like the President who is advocating these changes, what used to unthinkable is now a harsh reality, which is trully sad.
