A Latin phrase that means “remember, you must die,” memento mori is an artistic trope that serves as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the transitory nature of earthly pleasures.

Artists in the exhibition explore the theme in a variety of ways that speak to them, their practice, and their culture, and many will be in attendance at the Jan. 24 reception to discuss their work with the public in a cafe-style social setting.

Participating artists include: Kirk Bailey, Danielle Branchaud, Stephanie Henderson, Jonathan Herbert, Leslie Meeker, Lisa Moynihan, Sal Patalano, Sonia Rosa, William Soto and Francesca Turner.

The exhibition also includes an installation submitted by the Blue Butterfly Family Grief Center, a specialized grief support program for children and teens.

“Memento Mori” is part of Fogartyville’s ongoing Death Talk series, which aims to provide demystifying and enlightening conversations exploring mortality from diverse perspectives.

A complimentary wine tasting with Enrique Torres of Diablo Paso will take place during the event.
