In the midst of controversy surrounding the usage of North Sarasota Library as an early voting location in Newtown, a “Souls to the Polls” event seeks to increase the turnout of African-American voters in Sarasota county. Florida Gubernatorial candidate, Andrew Gillum, arrives to Newtown as part of his “Bring it Home” Bus Tour around the state–and can’t seem to get away from Sarasota. Chairmen of the Sarasota Democratic and the Sarasota Republican party weigh in voter turnout for their respective parties in the primary. Supervisor of Elections, Ron Turner, gives us the numbers as we anticipate one of the highest turnouts of voters for any primary election in Sarasota’s history.
