The picture is of my first Zen teacher, Roshi Philip Kapleau who wrote the first book by an American that helped students learn how to sit in zazen (zen meditation). His book, ‘The Three Pillars of Zen’ led numerous young people looking for authentic teaching to move to Rochester, NY in the late 60s and early 70s.
