The Fogartyville Songwriters Series is a new showcase opportunity to highlight some of the region’s best songwriting talent.  The February event will be hosted by Matt Frost. Matthew Frost was taught from the age of three by his father, the original keyboardist for Grand Funk Railroad and a member of the Bob Seger Band. Matthew studied classical composition and Jazz piano at the University of Miami, and has a sound engineering degree from Full Sail University. He has performed with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and Butch Trucks.

Andres Colin, is a Mexican songwriter, born in Delicias, Mexico. He has a passion for life. He is captivated by astronomy, philosophy, and science; which he tries to incorporate into his lyrics. He mixes Latin American rhythms and American beats together to create one of a kind, eclectic songs.

Tanya Radtke, a Sarasota native, was raised in a loving community of visual artists, musicians, gypsies, circus performers and gardeners.  Inspired by this eclectic tribe she was drawn to express herself as a songwriter. Songs provided her with an emotional outlet for dealing with life’s gifts and grievances, both personal and existential. She has recorded one solo album, Begin, and two albums with local favorite band, Passerine. She won a best original songwriting award at the 2012 Deland original music festival for her song Dreaming of Abe.

More info on the Songwriter Series:

The second Monday of each month, musicians and music fans are invited to gather to hear a trio of songwriters in the round playing their craft and describing their songwriting experience. We love the songwriter round format because it facilitates a deeper connection between the individuals sharing the stage, and encourages storytelling and spontaneous collaboration.

The Fogartyville showcase will present three solo singer-songwriters performing four songs each.

Following the showcase, we will host an Open Round for musicians, inviting any singer-songwriters in the audience to submit their name for a chance to be picked at random to play a few songs.  The Open Round is a good place for musicians to try out new material, meet other songwriters, practice performance skills and become a part of the local songwriting community.  Feedback from the audience is welcomed. Anyone is eligible to play at the Open Round as long as your material is original. (This is an acoustic event, no pre-recorded tracks allowed).

Schedule:

Monday, March 11 – Host Rebekah Pulley will be joined by Kip Kelley and Doug Burns.

Monday, April 8 – Host Dean Johanesen will be joined by Karlus Trapp and Sara Nelms.

Monday, May 13 – Host Justin Layman will be joined by Bill Vinhage and Emily Frost.
