This Wednesday’s show will be covering two parts of the blues music arena. There will be the Mississippi Delta segment which features all men and Classic Female Blues that will feature only women.
For the month of February (Black History Month) : In cooperation with local colleges, WSLR will be airing a special segment every Wednesday evening in honor of Black History Month.
At 6:30 pm, we will be airing segments featuring Black Literature and Poetry. At 7 pm (the first half hour of Eclectricity on Feb. 10 and 24 and of Acoustic Waves on Feb. 17) we will feature :
Brian Smalley’s ‘Chosen.’ This original acoustic novel as Brian describes it ‘is an opera of sorts, and is dedicated to Zora Neale Hurston. She was one of the finest
authors this world has ever known, and though she is gone from this world, she was there to help push the pen for me on every page.”
Presented in Four Parts it tells the story of events at a sugar mill town and its largely Haitian residents. It features Brian as well as Grant Peeples, LIs Williamson, Sam
Paceitti and Marianne Lerbs as singers and playing guitars, banjos, mandolins, Tres Cubano and bass with help from Christian Ward and Jonathan Hodge on fiddles.
