State of Our Schools Conference presented by Florida Youth Association, Saturday, June 24, 1-4 p.m. Free.
Despite it seeming that chaos and division are becoming the norm surrounding Sarasota County Schools, local education activists Sebastian Girstl and Sebastian Martinez believe our community can heal and unite for the benefit of the more than 48,000 students.
In this State of Our Schools Conference, participants will discuss the issues in our school system most pressing to every stakeholder in our community and develop common ground solutions every party can be on board with.
The conference features performances from Sarasota’s most talented student musicians, special guest speakers, and a speech-writing professional. The goal is that all who attend will leave with a renewed faith in our community.
State of Our Schools will include three main sections:
1. A speech-writing lesson & activity teaching every audience member the secrets behind crafting a compelling 3-minute speech.
2. A fluid discussion & debate on pressing issues between audience members.
3. A critical group activity highlighting our community’s ability to both reason and develop solutions for all Sarasota students.
