This Wednesday, April 13 at 9am, our first guest will be United Faculty of Florida President Andrew Gothard. In August 2021, United Faculty of Florida joined the federal lawsuit against the state of Florida regarding HB 233. Passed during the 2021 legislative session, HB 233 was “designed to chill the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights and to invade the privacy of Florida’s higher education students, faculty, and staff.” The “University Intellectual Freedom and Viewpoint Diversity” student survey was distributed to college students across the state on April 4. Then on April 5, Judge Mark E. Walker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida denied the state’s motion to dismiss UFF’s lawsuit. We’ll discuss the survey and why the union opposes it.
Our second guest will be Chuck Collins of Inequality.org. Chuck recently explained how to stop philanthropy from being a billionaire tax dodging tool and make sure charity dollars address our most pressing needs at a conference on “Oligarchs vs. All of Us,” organized by the Patriotic Millionaires. We’ll talk about that and other inequality problems.
