Peace & Justice: Flooding and Red Tide Explained

Written by on Monday, October 28, 2024

This Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 9am, we’ll talk to hydrologist Stephen Suau. We’ll talk about the recent flooding from Helene and Milton, and what should be done in the future. But we’ll also discuss his recently published scientific study linking the duration of red tide blooms to the huge releases of nitrogen laden water from Lake Okeechobee. This, he says, implies that even Sarasota County has a vested interest in Everglades Restoration.

And we’ll talk briefly to Alia Garrett. She’s the Sustainability Outreach Coordinator for Sarasota County. She’ll tell us about the upcoming 19th annual Sustainable Communities Workshop on November 7.
