It seems like just yesterday when the United States and a group of European allies had reached an agreement with Iran for it to postpone (for decades) efforts to develop a nuclear weapon. While preventing another country from acquiring the awesomely terrifying power to vaporize millions in an instant was a notable accomplishment, perhaps the opening of a meaningful dialogue with Iran for the first time in decades was as important. It seemed a step had been taken to move toward a real long-term stabilization of the region. Of course, the nuclear deal was not perfect and Iran was still not a perfect partner, but a historic first step had been taken. This week Mel Goodman (above), author, former CIA analyst and foreign policy expert, will join Steve and Lew to explain how got from that promising beginning to where we are today, which is one stupid mistake away from a full-blown shooting war in the Middle East.
