“Yesterday’s Dead Today”, Monday, December 28th, 7-9pm Eastern

Written by on Sunday, December 27, 2020

“It is said that, if you lined up all those who have ever been to a Grateful Dead concert head-to-toe, the line would stretch around the moon, and about halfway back. And nobody would complain!”

WSLR is slowly coming back with a very sparse number of live studio programmers, albeit with very
specific instructions as to how to protect both ourselves and our fellow WSLR volunteers.

And WSLR has now opened new Studio “B”, adjacent to the Joe Jacco On-Air Studio, wherein we will
be able to alternate shows in-house without programmer contacts.

REVIEW: Do Everything That’s in you, You Feel to be Your Part…
*Very* sweet jam coming out of Foolish ! Like honey dripping from my ears.

REVIEW: Average for 1990
Sounds more like a SBD heavy matrix. which isn’t a bad thing. Not nearly as inspired as the December
McNichols run but still worth a listen. Jerry’s guitar lines are a little thin and the jams are certainly Phil
and Bruce led. Highlights include an interesting Victim or the Crime with an unusual intro jam. Last
Black Muddy River til Summer 1995 tour. Maybe its because Jerry forgets the first two verses 😉 Either
way its an inspired way to end the show and the crowd noise indicates mucho satisfaction. One of my
favorite later Jerry tunes. 3 for performance, 4 for a solid matrixy remaster. = 4 stars

REVIEW: I was there.
This was quite a show. The first part of set 1 was heavy energy, and that seemed to be confirmed by
the choice of Victim, which fit the mood eloquently. Not the greatest ever, by any means. Regardless,
the jam at the end of Foolish Heart is an incredible Jerry + Bruce lead jam that should be heard by all.
A break through into the light. Second set was muddy in sound. The real highlight is the He’s Gone,
another must-hear performance. The song is one of the best I’ve ever heard, and the jam that follows,
out of this world! Post-space was pretty weak that night, as I recall. Get this for the legendary-quality
Foolish and He’s Gone. The next Black Muddy River was 8.13.91 (I think), and then it was shelved
until ’95.

REVIEW: Great Show
I was there in the Warrior Room below the arena and it was great quality sound coming into the place.
The first and only time I ever saw/heard a show without being in the arena and I wouldn’t trade it for
the world. Highlights were Cold Rain and Snow, I know you Rider and Hes gone…I saw three of the
four shows that run and If I had to choose one of them in retrospect it would have been the
12/28…Really great stuff..

REVIEW: i too was at this show
but my favorite of this show goes unmentioned so i’ll give it it’s props lol. this is definitely one of my
top 3 Stella’s sweet, crispy, airy yet jamming and no messed up lines either.Killer song great night to
hear it too. Overall really good show maybe even better than 12/31 itself.

REVIEW: He’s Gone
Like the rest of the New Year’s run, this show was fantastic. It was a really good time for the band,
coming off two great tours (Spring and Summer). This show isn’t quite as good as the 27th or 31st, but
it holds its own. And the 20 minute He’s Gone, a lament for the loss of Brent, is the standout. It’s also
the only Mind Left Body jam I ever saw…which makes this already very special. There are great
performances of other songs, especially Foolish Heart, BEW, and a solid China>Rider.
