REVIEW: Sound quality
I try to stay away from reviewing performances as it is such a subjective topic,
but sound quality….good god this one is crisp! A million thanks to the people
that make this stuff available.

Reviews of other recordings:
REVIEW: This show absolutely rocks.
I’m not going to write it’s the best of anything, but man what a fun show. From
the first note the whole band is flat out rockin’ and rollin’. I ride my bike a lot,
and this show keeps me “truckin'”.

REVIEW: Winterland gem
Here’s another killer show from, arguably, the Dead’s last great year. All 4
nights of this run smoke. The 29th is legendary and was well worthy of the
Dick’s Picks release. Don’t let that show overshadow this gem.

REVIEW: amazing
Great show, amazing energy, wild set list..this show helped relight my fire for
the grateful dead(it brings back memories of the shows and the scene)-I feel
like a reborn deadhead.

REVIEW: Very good
What a show to start off the NYE run at the Winterland. They pack a punch
right out of the gates and never lose a step. The first set is high octane, with
the drums in full swing, and Jerry and Phil having good times. The second set
starts off great, but doesnt close out very tightly. Great sound.

REVIEW: Donna is right on indeed!
This whole show is right on.Donna’s part in Scarlet is
well..beautiful,really.Drop this show into a walkman,ipod whatever,get
outside, crank it up and take a trip. It just doesn’t get much better.

REVIEW: Peggy-O
Best Peggy-O Ever PERIOD THE END.

REVIEW: band on fire
this show superbly documents the dead giving it their all, and with awesome
results. besides some excellent standout songs (see other reviews), the whole
thing has an incredible and consistent energy – with no moment wasted. from
bobby’s creative little fills, to some of donna’s best harmonizing, to jerry’s
typically brain-bending solos ’77 is famous for, don’t pass this one by.

REVIEW: whew…
you know i’m not just flat out SOLD on ’77 like most other folks…for the same
reason Straw Rider alludes to… I so often hear things that just floor me and
leaving me saying “well, I’ve never heard THAT before”…or “THAT one’s the
best ever…”, etc; from wahtever year. Guess that in itself is the beauty, and
what kept us going back, show after show…and what keeps me coming back to
the archive again and again(thanks archive). that being said, this show is so
solid and so sweetly delivered…among so much greatness in the year…it
stands out. this is one of those that makes you say:”yep, THAT is what its all
about.”

REVIEW: Best of 77
My favoite show of ’77, even though everyone jives with the 5/8 show, this is
better in my humble opinion. Best Brown Eyed Women of 1977! Strong
second set.

REVIEW: Around & Around
Around & Around – one of greatest ever check it out. Great show … with a
longer than usual Estimated Prophet midway jam for 1977.

REVIEW: amazing!
this show is exactly why i love the dead. there not playing at their best but the
setlist for the show is excellent. Also just the pure energy puts me on the edge
of my seat. Bertha> Goodlovin’ just mezorizing.

REVIEW: INCREDIBLE
Start to finish, this is one of the best shows of 1977. OK, it’s a tad heavy on
the slop factor, but IMO the passion of these performances easily more makes
up for it. Just monster versions throughout the show that will have you
re-evaluating your favorites from this year. The absolute best performances are
in the 2nd set, though: Supplication, Scarlet, Estimated, He’s Gone,
Truckin>Wharf Rat and RoundX2 are all simply transcendental. There just
aren’t enough superlatives to describe this show…hear this NOW!!

REVIEW: —
Awesome ’77 – no drum solos on this 2nd set! The opening Good Lovin’ really
is a wow, and how about that S>F about three tunes deep into the 2nd? While
the entire Winterland run closing out ’77 is top-grade stuff, I do think this is
the best of the 4 nights.

REVIEW: Scar-Fire so so HOT!
The funkiest, soupiest, goopiest Fire you’ll ever hear. Like played through
molasses and foggy glasses. Jerry singing like Aaron Neville. Melt me. Like
spaghetti in sauce. Fuzzytone guitar. Filling my gut good. Thank you.

REVIEW: ’77 New Year’s Run: N1
Best of the run. Bridge to ’78.
