When Ron DeSantis narrowly defeated Andrew Gillum in the governor’s race running basically as a Trump clone, it portended a potentially disturbing agenda in all areas of government but none more apprehensive than public school policy. His first move, appointing former House Speaker Richard Corcoran and known advocate of for-profit charter schools, confirmed the worst fears. But then, DeSantis said he would push for more funding for schools, reduce testing, and find ways to pay teachers more and reward them for current performance, not how they did on an SAT test in high school.
