On Tuesday, the Manatee County School Board will discuss and vote on the four superintendent finalists. On Wednesday, the Bradenton City Council will discuss expansion plans by Presbyterian Retirement Communities west of downtown.

City of Sarasota Commission closed meeting (attorney client session) (agenda)

Highlight: Discussing settlement negotiations in the matter of Alejandra M. Roldan Jaramillo v. City of Sarasota. A Sarasota police officer crashed into Jaramillo’s car at 301 and Ringling while crossing a red light. The officer was responding to a call, without turning on his warning lights.

City of Bradenton Council meeting (agenda)

Highlights: Presentation on downtown plans by Realize Bradenton; designating 4 acres on 9th St. E. (“Tropicana Public Works Site Reuse Area”) as a brownfield for redevelopment; rezoning 32 city-owned acres between 1st St. E., US 301 and the CSX railroad as “Industrial”; changing city ordinances, with amendments to the “future land use” element, “hurricane evacuation zone”, “coastal management and conservation”, and “coastal area development”; Orlando-based Presbyterian Retirement Communities, Inc. wants the city to rezone its 16 acres on the Manatee River and Wares Creek, just west of downtown, from “high density residential” to “urban central business district”, to expand its retirement campus.

Manatee County Planning Commission meeting (agenda)

Highlights: Upzone of 6 acres on SR 70 in Bradenton to build 116 multi-family residential units, 25% of them affordable; upzone of 20 acres along Lorraine Road from agriculture to build at least 25% affordable housing; upzone of 2 acres of agricultural land on Mendoza Road in Palmetto from agriculture to “single family residential”; rezone of 19 acres of agricultural land on SR 64 and Bourneside at Lakewood Ranch to “planned development”; preliminary site plan for a Chipotle restaurant on SR 70; rezone of 5 acres on 69th Street East in Parrish from agriculture to “planned development”.
