“Yesterday’s Dead Today”, Monday, June 19th, 7-9pm

Written by on Sunday, June 18, 2017

“There Is NOTHING like a Grateful Dead concert!”

I learned of the passing of Matt Reynolds, tour “guru” for The Dark Star Orchestra, the weekend before
last, and I already had last week’s show programmed, so I am breaking ranks with both myself and my
show “rules” tonight by featuring a Dead-related concert not nearly from “today in history”, in order to
pay my own small tribute to not only a “family” member, but one of the behind-the-scenes people largly
responsible for putting on events such as these. And so, this week’s broadcast, June 19, will feature a
very recent concert by the DSO, saluting a Grateful Dead concert(as is their wont), from almost half a
century ago…

From the DSO Facebook entry:

“For the past 12 years, Matt was the Tour Mystic behind countless DSO tours, leading all from the helm
of his trusty travel desk, being the behind-the-scenes beacon guiding us through success, tumult, and all
points in between, usually with great humor, and always with gentle nature.

Matt’s role was not for the weary, and when he ever was, he was careful not to share. Our ship of fools
sails now without captain, our guiding light extinguished, the weight of our loss an anchor to this
darkness. “

Breaking a second rank, while I try to NEVER broadcast any already-legally-released material, this
evening’s broadcast of the Dark Star Orchesstra recreates 5/7/72, “The Bickershaw Festival”, Wigan,
England(exactly one month after my first, 4/7/72, Wembley Empire Pool).
