There are just four recordings of this evening circulating, with almost no reviews. The
only review from this particular recording:
REVIEW: Power loss during lovelight
So this is a forgotten concert. Performed at a small very old movie theater that was
converted for concerts. I think this might be the only time they played there. It’s located
near Richmond in the East Bay area of California. It’s an enjoyable listen but nothing
particularly memorable until you get to the lovelight. Early on pig calls for Bob to start to
do some talking and he completely whiffs… Then there is a power loss and it’s not due to
the usual curfew issues. The band attempts to soldier on acapella style. There’s clapping
and some vocal attempts that are comical and not very good but interesting nonetheless
for completists like myself. Of now listen to every performance up to this point in order
while exercising trying to improve health issues. It’s easy to get pretty burned out when
love light starts up after so many versions of it. But this one is interesting and stands out.
Pigpen definitely saves it with his harmonica. In fact pigpen really elevates this entire
concert otherwise would be fairly lackluster… But during lovelight he really does manage
to pull rabbit out of his hat… But even that would not be successful had not the power
clicked back on because truly it’s only when Garcia is fully electrified can the song
continue…

Reviews from other recordings. Some are only applicable to the posted version:
REVIEW: Bobby explains wooden teeth Priceless. Remembering that this was recorded back in 69, back before digital music one can’t expect perfection, but this is pretty darn good for a classic.

REVIEW: Washington’s teeth
Its funny that when Bobby says Washington’s teeth were wooden, PigPen yells out that
they were made of hippo teeth, which is correct (hippo ivory, technically).

REVIEW: Awesome show!
You can tell right away from the crystal-clear harmonies on Casey Jones that the boys meant business tonight. Epic Lovelight.
