Get your dancing shoes on, roll up the rug and crank up the volume, as the Blue Groove celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a special edition featuring Latin Jazz, music from Cuba and salsa music inspired by life on the streets and in the after-hours dance clubs of NYC.
You’ll hear how Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo, a newly arrived, non-English speaking Cuban percussionist, changed American music forever; Cal Tjader, born in St. Louis to two Scandinavian touring vaudevillians and a major force in promoting Latin Jazz during his long career, will perform with a Latin Jazz dream team, 1960’s style; Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz and Héctor Lavoe will demonstrate Latin music’s power to bring people together; San Francisco’s John Santos will pay tribute to John Coltrane, Latin Jazz style; and you’ll hear how some of today’s outstanding jazz artists- Carlos Henriquez, Bryan Lynch and Eddie Palmieri, Hilton Ruiz and Conrad Herwig- are keeping Latin Jazz in the forefront of today’s music scene.
So I hope you’ll join me for what will sure to be a very entertaining evening of Latin Jazz.
